13 Jun 2007 12:52 AM Alert

This has been a great week for Skydive Chicago!  The sunny weather and light winds was the perfect platform for all of the activity this weekend.  It really is awesome to see all the activity around the dropzone!

Between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday a total of 112 loads were flown in both Super Otters!  Thanks to the staff that worked hard to help the 122 tandems role through smoothly on Saturday, finishing before 5:00pm!

Project Horizon started this past Friday and we had a lot of great freeflyers out for the event!  Thanks to David Brown, Chris Salcone, Dave Donnelly for organizing Project Horizon and everyone else who came out for the event!

There were a lot of good skydives including several two plane shots for the guys (and girls) who were a part of Project Horizon.  Thanks to Peter G. for donating his photos, which can be found in our online gallery.

The New Wave Boogie was also on in full force!  Thanks to SDC’s Chasing Amy for organizing the event on Saturday and Sunday.

In their words:

The experience level of participants ranged from 25 to 150 jumps.  We had a blast while working on improving RW skills including body position, diving to formations (and stopping!), and exiting linked formations.  In true Chasing Amy form we even launched a few unintentional head down flowers! The event culminated on Sunday with a 10way. Thank you everyone who contributed to making this event a great success for the participants: Jeff Church, Sraja, Andy Bonwit, Neil Wilson, Lou McNutt, Tracy O'Neil, Bob Moore, Rick Milheron, Andy McCoy, Tony Novak, Stefan Behrends, Pamela Hayes, Shari Brugos, and Mike Deegan.

The 4-way teams are still hard at work training. SDC’s Quattro brought in a coach and were training especially hard this weekend!

Congratulations to Anthony who made his 100th skydive this weekend!  Skydive Chicago and staff would like to congratulate recent AFP grads Lou and Eric.

Nice job guys!

Saturday culminated with the ever-popular Swoop & Chug!  Despite the stiff competition Mike Macino is still the reigning champion!  From the time he landed it took him only 14 seconds to reach his beer and finish it!

This weekend was also Rook’s birthday…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!  Thanks to Kirk for filling in as pilot early this week so we could celebrate out on the river!

This past week was a busy one, and only the beginning of a great summer and string of events!

This week, Thursday, June 14th – Sunday, June 17th, Roger Ponce will be at Skydive Chicago doing some RW organizing!  He will be organizing 40-ways in conjunction with TJ Hine and the Carolina flock.

This Friday will also be the start of our next AFP in a week course.

Next weekend we will be doing high altitude jumps on Saturday, the 23rd!  The 24th we will be holding our first water training for the summer!  Don’t forget water training is required to get your ‘B’ license.

Thanks to everyone who made this a great week!  Skydive Chicago truly is an amazing dropzone!

Until next time….

Erin
