06 Jul 2007 11:31 AM Alert

Jet jumps have been confirmed for Summerfest!

After all of the rain last weekend, we were lucky enough to get beautiful weather this week!  We flew loads everyday this past week…for a total of 108 loads!

There was a lot going on this weekend!  Saturday was a full day...There were 102 tandem students on Saturday alone!

TJ Hine organized the annual 10-way Iron Man Competition.  There were a total of 3 teams who participated.  “Team Cheese” took first place, and “Cosmic Brunswick Rocks” took second!  I’d also like go thank Otter Chaos for joining us from Indiana.

Loads flew until sunset, but the jumping day wasn’t done yet!  We had a full Otter load manifested for night jumps!  Several passes were flown for the 23 people who did a night jump including ‘Meteor Rook’!  Thanks to Scott Aires who made some very cool flares!

To see the flares in full force (and a few more ‘Meteors’) come on out for this weekends 4th of July Fireworks show and UFO jump!  The show will take place Saturday, July 7th sometime after sunset!  If you have any doubt about the magnitude of this show, just check out the picture below…that is just one of the many tubes used to launch the massive fireworks!!!

Thanks to Jeff Nebelkopf of Tony Suits who was out all weekend with a fleet of wingsuits.  Several people took advantage of his first time wingsuit jump instruction.  Jeff will be out at Skydive Chicago again for all of Summerfest (July 28th – August 5th).

I also want to thank Brad Vancino for taking some great pictures.  A lot of the pictures you see in these updates come from Brad!

Sunday morning started out with Swoop Club organized my Mike Wittenburg, which is fun for the swoopers and the spectators! Congratulations to all of the winners!  There was a tie for 1st (Henry, Zdenek, and Mike Sparks), and for second (Johnny Z, Steve Verner, and Dale).

I would like to remind everyone that when both planes are in the air there will be no hop and pops allowed for safety reasons.

The guys from Fast As F*** decided to make use of the coaching with Rook they won in the Make-A-Wish silent auction.  Even though they didn’t start until 10:30am they did back to backs all day and did 18 jumps!  The guys from FAF also know how to treat the ladies in manifest…thanks for bringing them the goodies!

In other Sunday news, Heather did her 700th skydive and George Malloy graduated from AFP!  Congratulations!!!

Skydive Chicago is now offering a jump package exclusively for AFP graduates!!  The package must be purchased within 2 weeks of graduating AFP and it is a great deal…50 jumps for $850, which is only $17 per jump!  The package does not include gear rental.

Any student who graduated AFP earlier this season can still buy this package, but must do so by this coming Sunday, July 8th!

A reminder to campground residents:
Those residents who have combined sewer pipes going into one riser must fix this  by Sunday, July 8th.  There should only be one pipe per riser.

Those residents who are hardwired into the electric box must fix this by Sunday,  July 8th.  Trailers need to have a plug that goes into the receptacle in the electric  box.
If the above mentioned problems are not fixed by July 9th the trailers will be disconnected, so please resolve these issues!!!

Don’t forget that every Tuesday there are $20 experienced jumps!

Summerfest is right around the corner!  T-Shirts will be available in the gear store and online, Para Concepts!  And not to worry ladies, there will be girly ones available too!

We have plenty of aircraft and vendors confirmed.  To checkout the calendar and get other info check out the Summerfest website at www.sdcsummerfest.com.

This is going to be another busy weekend for Skydive Chicago!  We will be holding the POPS Record attempts from the 6th – 8th!!!

The 8th annual Freefly Money Meet will also be from the 7th-8th.  It will be organized by Mike Wittenburg and Rook Nelson.

Gosia and Sarah of the Furies will be organizing jumps for small groups and novices on Sunday, July 8th starting at 9:00am.

Of course, the spectacular 4th of July fireworks show will be Saturday night!  Come on out and get in on the action!

To celebrate the holiday we will be offering $15 experienced jumps on Wednesday July 4th!!

This entire week there will be amazing food out at the Tiki Hut:

  • Tues. July 3 – Spiced Shrimp w/ Vegetables
  • Wed. July 4 – Turkey Fry
  • Thurs. July 5 – Cajun Night (Jambalaya)
  • Fri. July 6 – Burger Fest
  • Sat. July 7 – Fajita Night
  • Sun. July 8 – Pizza & Pasta Night

Also, our next A license in a week course starts this Friday, the 6th and goes through the 15th.

The VRW Skills Camp has been rescheduled from July 21st to July 14th, and will be organized by Patrick Heaney.

Next weekend, the 14th-15th, the Furies will be organizing the 3-way RW Scrambles for jumpers with less than 300 jumps.  The scrambles will consist of three or four rounds and teams will be randomly drawn.

Have a great holiday and I hope to see everyone out here for the fireworks!

Erin
