11 Jul 2007 4:52 PM Alert

Summerfest is just around the corner…only 2.5 weeks away (July 28th-August 5th)!!!  For those of you who haven’t heard, the Perris Jet has been confirmed to be at Summerfest!  It will be here July 30th and stay until the end of the event!

Other confirmed aircraft include 2 Super Otters, a Casa, King Air, Hot Air Balloon, and Pitts Biplane.  There are going to be plenty of RW, Freefly, and Wingsuit organizers at Skydive Chicago for the event!  Brian Germain will also be here giving a canopy seminar.

The Freefly world record attempts will be happening during Summerfest: August 1st-4th!  If you would like to be a part of the record and have not yet gotten an invite there is only one more opportunity to get one!  There will be a camp on July 30th-31st.  If you want to try out for an invite, then be sure to be here for the camp!

Plenty of vendors will be here, so be sure to check out the booths!

There is plenty of entertainment planned for the evenings too!  There will be several bands, a Texas Hold ‘em tournament, the famous Hellfish Toga party, and fireworks!!!

The 9th annual Film Festival will take place the last Saturday of Summerfest.  Get a video together and enter for a chance to win prizes from Icarus Canopies, Alti-2, Ouragan Suits and more!  It can be any video of your choosing (skydiving related or not), but it must be somewhat appropriate (there are kids around)!  Winners will be voted on by the crowd.

Regular jump tickets will only be $20 and registration for the event is only $45 for the whole event or $25 per day!  Be sure to bring your USPA card, logbook/protrack, and in-date gear![/quote]

Check out the Summerfest website at www.sdcsummerfest.com to register early for the event.  You can also see the latest confirmed vendors, organizers, aircraft, and events on the website!

Not only is everyone here at Skydive Chicago eagerly preparing for Summerfest, but also this past week was quite eventful.  120 loads were flown this past week here at Skydive Chicago!

The POPS Illinois Record attempts were scheduled for Friday – Sunday.  However the POPS Illinois Record was set on only the 3rd attempt with a 64-way formation!

Congratulations to all of the POPS participants!  Thanks to TJ Hine, Eric Bickel, John Kallend, Max Meijer and Deb Lehnherr for organizing the record!  Thanks to Doug of Chicagoland for bringing in the third Otter for the record.

The fireworks show was awesome!  I’d like to thank Scott Ayers, Jeff Alexander, Nicole, and Allen for spending the day Saturday setting up for the show!  Scott really knows how to put on a good show!

Meteor Rook also returned this week and brought an entire meteor shower with him!  Thanks to Rook, Kenny, Donovan, Pilot Dave, Frankie, Johnny Z, Kirk, and Scott Ayers for making it happen!

The 8th annual Freefly Money Meet went down this weekend!  There were 10 participants in the beginner/intermediate class and 10 participants in the open class!

Congratulations to all of the winners!

For those of you who took part in the money meet and would like a copy of the jumps, we should have a DVD ready by this coming weekend!  If you want one come and talk to me.

I would also like to give Betsy a belated congratulations on her 700th skydive!  Apparently when you don’t tell people you are about to reach a milestone it is grounds for a good icing!

Also, congratulations to Neil Wilson on making his 100th skydive and Terry Godfrey on graduating AFP!

Skydive Chicago is now offering a jump package exclusively for AFP graduates!!  The package must be purchased within 2 weeks of graduating AFP and it is a great deal…50 jumps for $850, which is only $17 per jump!  The package does not include gear rental.

Don’t forget about Terrific Tuesdays!  Not only are there discounted tandem jumps, but there are discounted experienced jumps too (only $20)!

The VRW Skills Camp has been rescheduled from July 21st to July 14th, and will be organized by Patrick Heaney.  If you want to brush up on your VRW skills make sure to be here!
Also this weekend, the 14th-15th, the Furies will be organizing the 3-way RW Scrambles for jumpers with less than 300 jumps.  The scrambles will consist of three or four rounds and teams will be randomly drawn.

Have a good week…

Erin
